Why “Just-Be-Yourself” Doesn’t Get You Anywhere With Men or Women

June 22nd, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Christine Akiteng The philosophy behind “Just Be Yourself” is that if you just be yourself people will naturally be attracted to you, naturally love you for who you are and naturally want to be with you and that you do not have to do anything out of character” to attract or be loved. The irony is that many frustrated, lonely and depressed singles have spent pretty much all of their lives “just being themselves” and gotten nowhere at all with the opposite sex. Heres the thing. On a surface level, your whole agenda is to BE and DO only what is natural to who you honestly believe yourself to be. But on a deeper level, youve got your own little filters through which you interact with the world around you. You have all these little computer-like programs that have pretty well programmed you to be for example, self-centered and selfish (thinking of just yourself), aggressive, defensive and passive (insecure), stick to a well programmed set of ruled and norms (be boring), uptight and sexually repressed etc. Its true that you are just being yourself” and just being the real you” but this is the faultily programmed you. If you really want to become naturally attractive (BE you) and effortlessly attract (DO you), then be prepared to be honest with yourself and put in some serious effort into becoming the very BEST YOU; an improved, happier and self-fulfilled you. The common approach practiced by many men and women (and taught by many dating and relationship experts) is decide on the kind of person they want to attract (remember those want in a perfect partner” lists) and then they try to figure out how to get him/her. They read books, magazine and internet articles and even attend seminars and workshops on How-To-Attract. They learn (and implement) a few simple “techniques” on how to best present themselves to the opposite sex (put on their best dress/shirt, give their best smile, deliver their best pick-up line or flirtatious moves, do all the romantic stuff and say nice things like yes, honey” or please, baby” or thank you, love” etc) but whatever is inside (insecurity, doubts, anger, shame, sense of inadequacy or low self-worth), every now and then pops up like unwanted ads on a computer screen. And when this happens there is a DISCONNECT” in who you are honestly trying to be” (on the surface) and who you really feel you are” (on a deeper level). You (and the other person) may not realize the exact moment the disconnect” begins to happen but some how the other person starts to withdraw or simply cuts bail and runs, and you are left wondering where the hell did I go wrong this time, I was just being myself with him/her?”. You conclude that the problem must be with him/her and move on to the next person, only for the same thing to happen again, and again, and again… Millions of single men and women out there are putting their ‘best’ foot forward but really stepping on their own feet. They are playing by all the “rules” (when to call after a date, best conversation starters, playing hard to get, things not to say or do and stuff like that) and practicing the best communication skills but find themselves stressed out, sad, discouraged and frustrated because the results aren’t what they expect. If you really want to begin attracting a special man or woman into your life with very little conscious effort, you have to ATTRACT that person by BECOMING him/her. You have to re-program your Hard Drive and Install new programs that work for you rather than against you. Sometimes trying to do this on your own can be hard because much of your default programming (beliefs, habits and attitudes) is so much part of you that you do not even recognize there is something wrong” with it. That is why some people seek outside help from an expert. Once youve allowed your inner and outer magnificence to shine with all honesty and authenticity, begin getting ideas for how to present that very BEST YOU to the world. Presenting the BEST YOU is about giving yourself every possible advantage while remaining true to your values and vision for a fulfilling life. Some people require a detailed step-by-step plan to get moving. Others only need the general idea, and theyre off and running. Do yourself a big favor; dont listen to people who say just be yourself and someone will come along and youll live happily ever after”. Chances are people who tell you this are single and lonely themselves, or miserable in their relationships and marriages because they are playing just be yourself”. Great Superfoods for Healthy Hair

June 19th, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Angela Byrd We all know that a well-balanced diet is healthy for our body and critical for optimal health and performance. Our hair is no different. A mixture of protein, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and iron are all required for healthy, strong hair. Good hair nutrition begins with getting enough protein, which is the building block of your hair. Then you need complex carbohydrates to help assemble the proteins for hair growth. Other important vitamins and minerals include B complex, which is associated with energy production and building good hair and skin issues, folic acid, B12, and zinc. Hair follicles can have low energy levels just like we do. Therefore, its very important that you eat a high protein mean at the start of each day. Consider the following food choices for breakfast and the other daily meals in order to give you hair the healthiest opportunity to grow and thrive. If you don’t have high cholesterol, try eating red meat twice per week. It has the protein your hair needs, but also is full of B vitamins, iron and zinc, which are all important for healthy hair. Eggs and egg whites are another great protein option, especially for vegetarians or those who cannot eat red meat due to dietary restrictions. Salmon is another great protein choice, and works great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Youll find its also full of B vitamins, including B12, and other vitamins and minerals. Just be sure to keep in mind that you should also have complex carbohydrates, which feed you energy over a longer period of time than refined carbohydrates, with your protein source at meals. Brown short-grain rice is an ideal form. It’s also a good source of B vitamins and some fiber. Whole grain choices complement your protein consumption by helping organize the proteins for the hair to utilize for optimal growth and health. June 15th, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Mike Singh Now that fly-fishing has become a very popular pastime, and a very popular method of fishing all together is it any wonder why there are so many fly-fishing web sites? Fly-fishing is unlike any other form of fishing, and more people are now jumping on the bandwagon to show support for this wonderful hobby. Slower and much more premeditated than general angling for bass or pike, fly-fishing is a slow moving yet fluid form of fishing that is taking North America by storm. For the reason of popularity, there are countless and thousands of fly-fishing websites online these days. These fly-fishing websites offer anything from flies, clothing, rod/reel combos, all the way to fly-fishing trips that can be booked online. More often than not, fly-fishing websites are a great way to find out what is hot in the fly-fishing industry. With new equipment and new products coming out monthly, it can be really hard to keep up with all of the new innovative products. Fly-fishing websites offer reviews on products, articles on the latest trends, and links to many clubs and organizations that cater to nothing other than fly-fishing. Many of the newer fly-fishing websites offer forums or live chat, where and avid fly-fisherman can meet new and potential fishing partners and great friends that all love this great pastime. There have been a great number of fishermen, that have found links to groups and organizations that have given them new and exciting prospects on fishing grounds or techniques. Anything that you could possibly need for a fly-fishing outing can be had from a fly-fishing website. These items can include flies, clothing, tackle, line, rods, reels, leaders, and tippets. Much of the products that you will find on fly-fishing websites will be distributed directly from the manufacturer, and this will eliminate the higher cost as there is no middle man to suck up your money when not expected. Going through a reputable fly-fishing website also offers the customer the chance to find great deals and the heads up on new products that have not been released for sale in the retail stores yet. This would be considered a good deal, as you can be one of the first to try a revolutionary or exceptional gear or supplies for fly-fishing. Solving Tonight’s Math Homework Crisis With the Emphasis on Learning Math

June 1st, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Ann LaRoche All this talk about Math anxiety is all well and good, but my problem is here and now and is sitting in front of me with tears in his eyes and I dont know how to help. Help me! I know this scenario. The household is in turmoil with trying to get dinner on the table. Or its time for bed and he still hasnt finished the homework. Or youre rushing out the door to catch the bus and he has a test today. Stop! No math problem can be solved under that kind of pressure. Dont even try. It is a futile attempt and only adds to the anxiety. Here is good advice for helping your child with his math problems! First, go away by yourself to a quiet place with the math problem in hand. You are going to solve it yourself before you work with your child. Start with quieting yourself. You are an adult. Regardless of your own math experiences in school and your beliefs regarding your math capabilities, you really are capable of solving this problem. You have life experiences that you can call on to assist you in solving this problem. But you say I could never do this when I was in school! So what! School is school, but it is not real life. Real life presents us with math problems that we solve everyday. The difference may be that our solution or approach may not look like anything we ever learned in school. Again, so what! Solving the problem is what is important, not knowing the correct way to solve it. You can do this, but not with a child looking over your shoulder. Trust me. Even with a BA in Mathematics, I too need to get away to a quiet spot to mull over the problem and work out a solution. Second, take time to first think of three ways to approach the problem. Could you draw a picture? Could you make the problem simpler by using smaller numbers? Could you work the problem backwards, i.e. plug in a best guess for the answer? Jot them down. There is no one right way. I dont care what youve been taught in school. Thats a lie. So from the different approaches, choose the one you think will get you to the solution. Work the approach until you get stuck. What have you learned? This is very important! Pay Attention Here. What have you learn from this approach other than it doesnt lead to the answer? This was not a waste of your time. It has added to your experiences. This bit of knowledge will help you in your second attempt. So move on. Do not dwell on this first attempt, because it wasnt a failure. It was just a dead end. Turn around and begin again with your next best approach to the problem. Work it until you get stuck. If other approaches occur to you while you are working an approach, jot them down quickly, but dont abandon your current approach until you get stuck. Dont get discouraged, take a break between approaches. Come back to it fresh in a little while. This is important too. Your mind doesnt stop working on the problem just because you stopped. Dont worry about it either! Worry is detrimental to problem solving. Worry reinforces those lies that you are not capable. You can do this in time. By taking a break and coming back fresh, youll be amazed when you get back to it how quickly it progresses. Eventually, you will solve the problem. Now what do you do with this. Before you rush out to your child and if you have time, I would recommend you try another approach to see if you could come up with the same answer. You may even want to go back to the failed approaches to see where they went wrong in light of the real answer. This exercise may seem like a waste of time, but again you are adding to your math experience. This knowledge will cement the learning that took place and may help you with other problems down the road. Every wrong answer is an opportunity for learning, for gaining insight into the world of math. You may even discover that your first approach was fine and would have yielded the correct answer if you hadnt made that dumb mistake in calculating such and such. Mistakes happen. You may discover that your first approach didnt work because of a wrong assumption or a misinterpretation of the problem. All of this adds to your knowledge and experience. Third, you need to reconcile your approach to the problem with the approach the school mandates in the math textbook. Notice that earlier I didnt suggest you try to figure out how the textbook wanted you to solve the problem. You could have but what would you have learned? Of course I also assumed if you could have solved the problem as the math textbook says to solve it, you would not have come to me for help in the first place. So why go back to the textbook now? Because we have to play the game the school insists that we play. As far as the school is concerned, the math textbook is the ultimate authority on how these problems need to be solved. If you can reconcile your approach with the approach used in the textbook, youll have a better chance of explaining the textbooks approach to your child. So now we come to the moment of truth, working with your child. You can take many approaches here. What you decide to do may depend on how much time you have, your childs disposition, and your need to adhere to the rules. The most beneficial approach for your child would be to allow him to discover the solution himself just as you did. Working with you, define three or more approaches. Let him go down a dead end or two. Discuss together why the approach didnt work and what was learned. Explore the problem in a relaxed manner, knowing that the point of the exercise is not just to get the right answer, but to learn problem solving. You are developing an analytical mind in your child. Real life problems dont look like the ones in the schools math textbooks. It is better if your child learned to think outside the textbook. Dont be fooled. The schools are only interested in a child who can learn the proper formulas, plug in the numbers and get the right answers consistently. Those who play their game well get the As, but what have they learned. I would want more for my child. Now lets get back to the real world. You dont always have time to do what I have suggested above. You may have an anxious child that insists that he has to play the game by the schools rules or his answers will be wrong. I understand. Ive been there. Do what you can. If you need to teach your child how to solve the problem as the book does, do that. But use the insight you gained from your approach and reconciling it to the books method to better explain the problem and solution to your child. Sometime if you break it down a little bit more than the book does, this can unlock the understanding for your child. Or have your child show you how hes trying to solve it and discover together his own misinterpretation or wrong assumption. Let him teach you how to do the problem. Again the emphasis should be on what can be learned from solving the problem, rather than just getting the right answer. Last, if your child is anxious about math, gets upset with every test, doesnt want to do the math homework, etc. then you have a bigger problem than just tonights homework. This problem has nothing to do with your childs capabilities to do math. It has everything to do with how he is being taught math in school. Ann LaRoche, Math Expert and Author of the book “Math Is Child’s Play.” Ann advocates learning math by playing games. Card games and board games are the fun and easy way to strengthen math skills and improve problem solving capabilities. In her book, Ann debunks common math myths, addresses math anxiety, and gives practical advice to parents who want to help their child with math but feel unable or unqualified. Ann sheds light on the confusion wrought by New Math and has a process for handling math homework time that will turn those tears of frustration into smiles of triumph. Read this story at www.mountainlaurelsudbury.org/Rithmetic.asp for a new view on teaching and learning math. My encouragement to you is You can do this. You just need to understand and believe that doing math is a basic skill that everyone can do. Keeping Your Home Smelling Spring Fresh

May 29th, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Maria Brittis When I was growing up in the 60’s my mom had always believed in home made concoctions for everything from cleaning cabinets to bathrooms to home made hair conditioners, and facial toners. Lemon was a big one in my home. My mom would stock up on lemons which were used on cleaning as well as cooking. The most memorable was her fresh smelling lemon spray which was used every year for her spring cleaning. April was the cleaning month. She would spray it on base boards, mattress box springs, closets, shelving, out door furniture and every nook and cranny. Our home smelled like fresh lemons. When we had guests the night before she go through the house quickly and spray everything. She would keep a small spay bottle in our rooms and ask us to spray our rooms each week. Not only did it clean, it was a great freshner, everything smelled so clean and fresh. I was always taught to clean up during cooking. Mom’s home made lemons cleaner was great for cleaning around the oven when food was present. It’s better to spray lemon on chicken than bleach. I have passed on this fabulous receipe to you all. I hope you find this receipe helpful in helping your decision in finding a air freshner. Find a pretty spray bottle. You can purchase one at your local department store. Fill the bottle half way with distilled water. Add 3 to 4 drops of lemon oil which can be purchased at a candle shop, or bath shop. Add one whole lemon to this ingredient. Low and behold you have yourself the best smelling air freshner/cleaner for cleaning kitchen cabinets to cleaning bathrooms! Happy Cleaning! Seven Common Marketing Problems Solved by Marketing Operations

May 17th, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Gary Katz Corporate marketing groups - especially bandwidth-challenged small-to-mid-sized departments - can be so focused on tactics and fire fighting that they jeopardize their marketing investment. There is a tendency to overreact to events, to tackle symptoms rather than underlying fundamental problems and to jump at the opportunity to please the boss. Many times, this kind of tactical knee jerking may be fatal. Without great marketing, companies won’t flourish, especially those in highly competitive markets. Yet the chaotic nature of emerging or dynamic growth companies and the tendency to place the marketing burden on too few individuals is a setup for failure. Promising companies may be left in the dust, or at least handicapped at the starting gate. Marketing Operations is emerging as an important discipline for improving performance and measuring ROI in admired technology companies (like Intel, IBM and Amazon) who have refined and fine-tuned their marketing organization with an operational focus. Given the demands that these organizations face today, an innovative approach is central to solving critical issues like results measurement, bandwidth constraints and creativity limitations, and building value-added outsourced supplier relationships and effectively managing budget. Many of the best practices, efficient processes and systems approach from large company Marketing Operations can and should be applied by emerging companies that are serious about their marketing investment. Here’s why: PROBLEM #1 Ill-defined metrics Today, more than ever, corporate marketing departments need to justify their existence. The need to measure results is unavoidable. However, the instincts and skills that make an outbound marketing practitioner great-action-orientation, verbal and written acuity, persuasiveness, the ability to build strong relationships-often don’t translate into an ability or willingness to scientifically and objectively evaluate success. Add in broken systems and the organization’s unwillingness to pay for marketing evaluation, and it’s no surprise that many marketing departments are unable to define meaningful success metrics. SOLUTION Marketing Operations ensures that the right processes are in place to establish meaningful metrics at the front-end of marketing process, enabling the measurement of success at key intervals, and as each program concludes. PROBLEM #2 Slammed resources The prevailing attitude of “doing more with less” can leave key people discouraged, overwhelmed, near burnout, and eventually, circulating their resumes. The consequences for organizations are costly mistakes, high turnover, and collapsed programs when key people leave, and missed opportunities to leverage the “ugly-stepsister-Cinderella-in-waiting” programs that never get off the ground because of a lack of ownership. SOLUTION Marketing Operations addresses these resource limitations by ensuring workload is effectively allocated, roles are clearly defined, interdependencies are understood, team members feel satisfied with their jobs and the programs and additional resources, whether through additional headcount or outsourcing, can be successfully justified to executive management. PROBLEM #3 Sketchy institutional memory Marketing is dependent on accurate information, a historical view into past successes and failures, and the ability to recognize patterns that link seemingly unrelated data points. Unfortunately, knowledge in many marketing organizations is scattered all over the company. It’s in the heads of individual workers, on shelves, on people’s hard drives, in long forgotten filing systems. When people leave, a big piece of organizational knowledge goes with them. Information loss is a huge productivity killer for marketing teams. Lost insight that must be regained or reacquired wastes previous marketing investments. SOLUTION Marketing Operations facilitates knowledge sharing, an enduring repository of information and greater decision-making based on fact, as opposed to hunch. PROBLEM #4 Constrained creativity The best creativity comes from many brains working together in collaboration. A consequence of the age of the “individual contributor” director is constrained creativity. When the entire creative burden falls mostly on one outbound marketing person, the ability to think out of the box can be severely impacted. Creative synergy results from many minds thinking as one. SOLUTION Marketing Operations enables the creative process to benefit from the synergy of team. PROBLEM #5 Failed supplier relationships Most successful companies can point to strong, long-term marketing supplier relationships as integral to their success. Likewise, a pattern of failed supplier relationships is often an indicator of marketing department failure, rather than poor vendor performance. Unfortunately, companies that have had consistently bad relationships with outsource suppliers often react by seizing control and bringing everything in house. While this strategy may provides the illusion of control, it lets marketing managers deflect blame for failures, rather than teaching them how to manage their outsource suppliers by taking responsibility for the results. In addition, this strategy won’t scale with the growth of the organization. SOLUTION Marketing Operations helps set realistic expectations and mutual accountability between suppliers and the organization, increasing the effectiveness of outsource partners by empowering them to act as an extension of the internal team. PROBLEM #6 Lost discretionary budgets Use it or lose it. Misuse it and lose it anyway. Many corporate marketing departments are leaving discretionary budget on the table or allocating it to the wrong initiatives. This discretionary marketing budget “Catch 22″ occurs because: It’s very time consuming to manage the budget effectively, especially in companies with broken financial systems Each marketing spend-decision creates more work for the one-person or small-team marketing department in terms of project management, measurement, supplier management, etc. Doubt persists about the ability to successfully justify the expenditure to management Focus is instinctively on high-visibility marketing activities and C-level executive “requests” over fiscal management (marketing people are more inclined toward marketing than finance) SOLUTION Marketing Operations facilitates implementing the system support infrastructure and financial management discipline needed to protect precious marketing budgets. PROBLEM #7 Narrow marketing mix Many companies align their fate with the success of too few marketing programs. Whether it’s lead generation, public relations, trade shows or advertising, the over-reliance on any one particular program can derail a company-especially if a key program unexpectedly loses momentum. In the meantime, programs that could have had strong leverage never get a chance to prove their mettle and are forever relegated to the “B” list. SOLUTION Marketing Operations puts the means in place to launch potentially high-value marketing programs that would never otherwise get out of the starting gate. The Bottom Line In a nutshell, Marketing Operations is an organization’s best bet to: Ensure that success can be measured and replicated Leverage systems and processes to enable consistently excellent performance Encourage great marketing departments to stay together Allow the marketing organization to flourish, despite the unexpected, but often inevitable, loss of a key employee. Gary M. Katz, APR, is president and CEO of CommPros Group, a Santa-Clara, Calif.-based firm that provides marketing operations services to help companies leverage their marketing investment, plus a variety of outsourced marketing program management services to support lean marketing departments. Designing Monograms - Spice Up Your Wedding With Your Own Monogram Designs

May 14th, 2008 by manouobermyer

By Tim Gorman Monograms are a great way to personalise your wedding. You can get everything from the dress to the food monogrammed. It can give a real sense of style to your wedding. But it is important to make sure that the design of the monograms is what you want. Although it is cheaper and easier to just order them pre-made from a company, if you are able to design them yourselves then it is a great way to make sure that they are really what you want. But do not think that if you are not good at designing, you just have to use what is already there. It is possible for everyone to design their own monograms if they want to. If you are good with computers then there are some very good programs that can help you to design your monograms. They are easy to use and if you get the right one the you can make some really good designs very easily. Then all you need to do is to put your design on to a disk and give it to the company that is doing the monograms for you. It is worth making sure that the company that you want to use can do this, but these days most companies use computers and so it is not likely to be a problem. If you are not good with computers then you could always ask a friend to operate it for you while you tell them what you want from the design. If you are good at design then you might just want to do it yourself without the computer. This is a really good way to get it the way that you want it, but make sure that it looks good before you send it off to the company. There is no point in deciding that you are not sure about the design when you see it as it is too late to do anything about it then, unless you want to reorder it all again. So make sure that it is what you want before you send it. If you are not sure of what you want then you can always get a designer to work with you to get the right design. This is a lot more expensive, but it will make sure that you get the design that you want. By Joyce Oladipo 1. The spray and pray marketing doesnt work. Dont deliver your mass marketing message to everybody you think needs your service. Newspaper or TV commercials are the most expensive type of marketing you can use to deliver your marketing message Youre using media time and space to explain how you can help a person solve his problems. I suggest you use the media to offer your message instead of delivering your message, so when interested prospects call your office, send them your information packet by mail. This allows you to deliver much more information to the person who is interested and gives you the persons name and address to add to your mailing list. 2. Its a waste of money to spend money on colorful brochures. Theyre expensive and, in most cases, not necessary. The only time you need colorful brochure is when youre marketing something colorful, such as art or gemstones. And even then, you can often find alternatives that are less expensive than brochures, such as photographs. If you want a colorful flowers to impress your prospects, your clients or yourself, thats fine. But dont expect it to be a cost effective part of your marketing program. 3. Institutional ads dont work. A lot of people are using institutional ads to market their business without generating measurable results. How do you know if you are making an impression with your ad if you dont know the person whom youve impressed. I urge you to use a method thats traceable a method that generates inquiries from genuine prospects so you can tell what works and what doesnt. 4. Its not easy to use media publicity to gain exposure. Media exposure usually doesnt directly affect your bottom line. To get more value from your publicitys, use it to establish credibility and generate inquiries from qualified prospective clients. 5. Simplify your e-zine. Many small businesses think creating a newsletter is produce multi-page letters that cost a fortune to design, print and mail. Remember, the purpose of an e-zine is to deliver information and reinforce why prospective clients should choose you over othes. A simple educational alert of even one or two tips pages works just fine. Your e-zines size is not nearly as important as how often you mail it and the value of the information you present. 6. People attend seminars because they want information, so dont focus on serving food at seminars. When you advertise that youre serving food, you attract people who want to eat, not listen and food cost money. Ive promoted hundreds of seminars and I assure you that you dont need to feed people to get them to attend. You simply need to offer facts and ideas your prospects want and then market your seminar so prospects understand what theyll learn. 7. Stop outbound telemarketing. Ive never heard anyone say he likes to be solicited by telephone. I urge you to invest in a marketing program that attracts qualified inquiries. Then you wont need outbound telemarketing and you wont create a bad impression on a prospective client. 8. Deliver educational based information. People want information, thats why they surf the Internet, attend seminars and request free information. When you use my method of Education-Based Marketing, you send free information to prospects who request it. This gives them the information they want — and gives you a mailing list of prospective clients. What could be easier! 9. Hire an independent consultant. If you want to get more for your marketing dollar, avoid the high costs of ad agencies and PR firms, I urge you to look for an independent consultant. Ive found when I hired a private consultant; Im paying for knowledge, skill, accountability and experience not expensive overhead. This is especially true in marketing. Online entrepreneur Joyce O.
